One Week Later: An Incredible Response

LENS’s Mission to end traffic accidents is only possible because of the public safety officers that make real-world impact with putting LENS into action.
After the CBS feature story “CHP LA Communications Center using AI to prevent accidents before the happen” the level of positive response to the work done by CHP and LENS has been unprecedented. CBS talked with the California Highway Patrol, Los Angeles Communication Center (LACC), after they invited LENS to participate in their interview outlining their operation’s use of AI with existing CCTV feeds to spots hazards and situations on the road to prevent accidents before they happen. The CHP LACC is one of the busiest communication centers in the country and stationed in LA the traffic capitol of the world. It represents one quarter of the state, and 3% of the country.
The CHP uses LENS Detect to scan its existing CCTV feeds, in real-time, to automatically identify “pre-accidents”, or the root causes of accidents, — then preventing accidents before they occur. In just a matter of months, CHP has already identified over 1,000 disabled vehicles, resulting in the prevention of accidents, and even saving lives. With an increasing number of dispatchers using LENS Detect and receiving instantaneous “pre-accident” alerts for even more hazards, CHP is projected to detect an additional 17,000 Disabled Vehicles in the next three months and potentially save at least five lives.
Appreciation for the CHP LACC Boots-on-the-ground
We could not be more proud to see the men and women of the CHP carry out their mission to provide safety, security, and service to the public — now utilizing LENS in conjunction with their mission-critical equipment, such as patrol cars, lightbars, and computer-aided-dispatch (CAD) monitors. While there are many steps along the way in the LENS mission, this first week after the public announcement was an important one because it signals that we are accelerating toward reaching our mission to end traffic accidents.
Most importantly, while the LENS team continues building the LENS Detect application and the Specific AI models that power it, and the LENS Platform — we cannot express our gratitude enough for the boots-on-the-ground, from the dispatchers to lieutenants to captains for taking heroic actions every single day to keep all of us safe on the road.
